Ignition Interlock Cost Calculator
Ignition Interlock Cost Calculator
Ignition interlock costs vary by state, provider, and how long you’re required to keep the device installed. Use the sliders below to estimate your total out-of-pocket cost across installation, monthly monitoring, calibration visits, and removal.
This is an estimate only, based on typical published price ranges. Actual pricing depends on your state, provider, and vehicle. Confirm exact fees with your local service center.
How to Use This Calculator
- Set your program length. This is the number of months a court, DMV, or licensing agency has ordered you to keep the ignition interlock device installed. If you’re not sure, check your court order or DMV notice — most programs run 6 to 12 months for a first offense.
- Adjust the installation and removal fees. These are usually one-time charges. If your service center has quoted you an exact price, drag the sliders to match it; otherwise the default values reflect typical published ranges.
- Set your monthly monitoring fee. This is the recurring charge for leasing the device, data reporting, and customer support. Check your provider’s quote or use the default if you don’t have one yet.
- Choose your calibration cost and frequency. Most states require calibration every 30, 45, or 60 days. If your provider bundles calibration into the monthly fee instead of charging separately, check the “already included” box so it isn’t counted twice.
- Read your estimate. The total updates instantly as you move the sliders, and the breakdown below it shows exactly how installation, monitoring, calibration, and removal add up over your program length.
What Affects the Final Price?
Every ignition interlock program has the same basic cost structure, but the exact numbers shift based on a few factors:
- State requirements — some states mandate more frequent calibration or additional monitoring fees.
- Provider and device model — pricing differs between providers such as RoadGuard, Intoxalock, and Smart Start.
- Program length — a longer court-ordered period naturally means more monthly and calibration charges.
- Financial hardship programs — some states offer reduced fees for drivers who qualify, which this calculator doesn’t account for.
