What to Look For Before Buying

Choosing the right helmet requires careful consideration. Safety standards must be the primary focus. You must also consider the specific sport. Proper fit is essential for all users.

Check Impact Protection Standards

Always look for NOCSAE or NFL certification. These standards ensure the helmet handles real hits. Check if the helmet addresses specific impact types. Quarterbacks need protection against ground contact. Do not compromise on safety for style.

Value Position-Specific Features

Consider if the helmet suits your role. Quarterbacks benefit from wider fields of view. Skill players may need different facemask styles. Specialized helmets often cost more but offer better safety. Match the gear to your actual playing style.

Rating Fit and Comfort Systems

A helmet must fit snugly without being tight. Look for adjustable dials and padded liners. Good ventilation prevents overheating during games. Moisture-wicking materials help maintain comfort. A poor fit can lead to dangerous movement.

Verify Shell and Liner Durability

Inspect the shell material for impact resistance. ABS and polycarbonate are common high-quality choices. Check the quality of the internal foam. High-density foam absorbs energy more effectively. Durable liners will last through many seasons.
